The Popol Vuh is the great surviving epic of the Americas: the creation of the world, the Hero Twins' descent into the underworld of Xibalba, and the shaping of the first humans out of maize.
It comes down to us in K'iche' Maya, written in the 1550s. An interlinear opens an indigenous masterpiece almost no reader has ever met in its own living words.
