I had a desire to spend double the gold on some commemorative gift, but Capitu stopped me. On the contrary, she consulted me about what we were to do with those pounds. 'They are yours,' I replied. 'They are ours,' she corrected. 'Well, you keep them.'
The narrator considers spending gold on a commemorative gift, but Capitu stops him and they discuss what to do with the money.
The narrator wanted to spend twice the amount of gold on a commemorative gift, but Capitu stopped him and instead asked his opinion on what to do with the money. He said it was hers, but she insisted it was theirs, and told him to keep it.
