O sacristão achou meio de conciliar a rivalidade, tomando a si obter de um dos outros seguradores do pálio que cedesse a vara ao Pádua, conhecido na paróquia, como José Dias. The sacristan found a way of reconciling the rivalry, taking upon himself obtaining from one of the other holders of the canopy that he yield the staff to Pádua, known in the parish as José Dias. Thus he did; but José Dias still upset this arrangement. No, since we had another staff available, he asked for it for me, "young seminarist", to whom this distinction belonged more directly.
The sacristan finds a way to reconcile the rivalry by obtaining a staff for Pádua, but José Dias upsets the arrangement.
The sacristan tries to resolve the dispute by getting one of the canopy bearers to give his staff to Pádua, but José Dias intervenes, claiming the spare staff for himself as a young seminarist, arguing that the honor is more fitting for him.
