Não me quero dar por modelo, mas aqui estou eu que nasci com a vocação da Medicina; meu padrinho, que era coadjutor de Santa Rita, teimou com meu pai para que me metesse no seminário; meu pai cedeu. Pois, senhor, tomei tal gosto aos estudos e à companhia dos padres, que acabei ordenando-me.
I do not want to give myself as a model, but here I am, who was born with the vocation of Medicine; my godfather, who was coadjutor of Santa Rita, insisted with my father that he put me in the seminary; my father yielded. So, sir, I took such liking to the studies and to the company of the priests that I ended up ordaining myself.
O narrador conta que nasceu com vocação para a Medicina, mas foi forçado a entrar no seminário e acabou ordenando-se.
The narrator explains that despite his natural inclination for Medicine, he was persuaded by his godfather to enter the seminary and eventually became a priest.
