Duas vezes fui à janela, esperando que ela fosse também, e ficássemos à vontade, sozinhos, até acabar o mundo, se acabasse, mas Capitu não me apareceu. Não deixou minha mãe, senão para ir embora. Eram ave-marias, despediu-se.— Vai com ela, Bentinho, disse minha mãe.— Não precisa, não, D. Glória, acudiu ela rindo, eu sei o caminho. Adeus, Sr.
Two times I went to the window, hoping that she would also go, and we would stay at ease, alone, until the world ended, if it ended, but Capitu did not appear to me. She did not leave my mother, except to go away. It was Ave Marias, she said goodbye. 'Go with her, Bentinho,' said my mother. 'Not needed, no, Dona Glória,' she replied laughing, 'I know the way. Goodbye, Sir.'
