In this particular, my imagination was a great Iberian mare; the smallest breeze gave her a foal, which immediately came out as Alexander's horse; but let us leave daring and improper metaphors for my fifteen years. Let us say the case simply. The fantasy of that hour was to confess to my mother my loves to tell her that I had no ecclesiastical vocation.
The narrator describes his vivid imagination and his decision to confess his love to his mother.
The narrator compares his imagination to a fertile mare, but decides to speak plainly: his fantasy was to confess his love to his mother and declare that he had no calling for the priesthood.
