In the seminary there is interest in knowing you, because Father Cabral speaks of you with enthusiasm. He walked to the door, we both left. Before leaving, he turned to me, and I almost saw her jump on my lap and tell me that I would not be a priest. This was already his intimate desire, as the time approached.
The conversation about vocation now completely absorbed me, and while it frightened me, it opened a way out.
The narrator reflects on the interest in him at the seminary due to Father Cabral's praise, and recalls a moment when he almost saw a woman jump on his lap and tell him he wouldn't be a priest, which was her secret wish as the time for his ordination neared.
