It is good, ended, I said finally; but explain me only one thing, why is it that you asked me if I had fear of being beaten? It was for nothing, answered Capitu, after some hesitation... Why meddle in that? Say always. It was because of the seminary? It was; I heard say that there they give beating... No?
The narrator finally ends the conversation but asks Capitu why she asked if he was afraid of being beaten.
The narrator presses Capitu for the reason behind her question about fear, and she reluctantly admits it was because she heard that beatings occur at the seminary.
