Whilst she was speaking, a frog put its head out of the water, and said,
Mientras ella hablaba, una rana sacó la cabeza fuera del agua, y dijo:
En mitad del lamento, algo responde desde el agua.
«Whilst» es la forma británica y algo anticuada de «while» (mientras). «To put one's head out» — asomar la cabeza — usa «put» (poner) + «out» (fuera): el inglés construye el gesto pieza por pieza. «Put» es igual en presente y pretérito: solo el contexto dice cuál es.
