A princesa responde com desdém: o que um sapo poderia fazer por ela?
A princesa responde do alto do seu desdém: «you nasty frog» — «seu sapo horrível» — desce o bicho ao nível do nojo. A pergunta «what can you do for me?» é retórica, quase um insulto; ela não espera resposta. É a arrogância que os Grimm plantam de propósito, para que a dívida com o sapo pese mais tarde.
