The Word leaps up, consubstantial with the Demiurge

Straightway the Word of God leapt up out of the downward-sinking elements into the pure work of nature, and was united with the Demiurgic Mind — for it was consubstantial. And the irrational, downward-sinking elements of nature were left behind, so as to be matter only.
At once the Word of God leaps up out of the downward-sinking elements into the pure work of nature, and is united with the Demiurgic Mind — 'for it was consubstantial (ὁμοούσιος).' The irrational lower elements are left behind as matter only. The exact word later chosen at Nicaea appears here of the Word and the Mind.
The Word does not stay in the mud. It leaps up out of the heavy elements and fuses with the Demiurgic Mind, and the reason given is the astonishing one: ὁμοούσιος γὰρ ἦν, 'for it was consubstantial.' This is the precise term the Council of Nicaea would choose two centuries later for the Son's relation to the Father — here, in a pagan Greek text, describing the Word's oneness of being with Mind. The interlinear puts the word itself in front of the reader; no translation flags the coincidence.
And there is a bilingual pun the Greek keeps and English drops: the elements left below are ἄλογα — 'irrational,' yes, but literally 'without the Word,' λόγος, because the Word has just leapt out of them. What is left when the Logos departs is sheer matter (ὕλη), lifeless stuff.
