ΕΝ ΑΡΧΗ ἐποίησεν ὁ θεὸς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν.
The opening line of the Bible, and of the whole Septuagint. Ἐν ἀρχῇ (“in a beginning”) is printed by Swete in unaccented majuscule, ΕΝ ΑΡΧΗ, this edition's own incipit convention (see EDITION-MANIFEST.md). This is the phrase John's Gospel deliberately echoes and rewrites (Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ λόγος, John 1:1), and ἀρχή/ἐποίησεν here render the Hebrew opening בְּרֵאשִׁית בָּרָא (bərēʾšît bārāʾ), “in (the) beginning, [he] created.”
