κ]αὶ συνετέλεσεν ὁ θεὸς [ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ] τῇ ἕκτῃ τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ [ἃ ἐποίησ]εν· καὶ κατέπαυσεν [τῇ ἡμ]έρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ ἀπὸ πάν[των τῶ]ν ἔργων αὐτοῦ ὧν [ἐποίησ]εν.
God's own sabbath: having finished (συνετέλεσεν) his works, he ceases (κατέπαυσεν) from them on the seventh day — the verb behind the Hebrew loanword "sabbath" (שַׁבָּת, from the root שבת, "to cease, rest"). The bracketed restorations continue from 2:1 through the middle of this verse's opening word.
