καὶ ἐποίησεν Κύριος ὁ θεὸς τῷ Ἀδὰμ καὶ τῇ γυναικὶ αὐτοῦ χιτῶνας δερματίνους, καὶ ἐνέδυσεν αὐτούς.
God's own answer to the fig-leaf aprons of v.7: coats (χιτῶνας, the standard word for an everyday tunic) of animal skin, requiring — though the text does not linger on it — that a creature die to clothe them. Many later readers have seen here the first sacrifice, or at least a first substitution, in Scripture, quietly preparing patterns that recur throughout the Torah's sacrificial system.
