Καὶ ἔζησεν Ἰάρεδ ἑκατὸν καὶ ἑξήκοντα δύο ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἑνώχ.

The setting

The sixth patriarch — and the father of the man whose story breaks this chapter’s pattern (vv.21-24). Ἰάρεδ, too, is named in Luke’s genealogy (Luke 3:37), under the New Testament’s own spelling Ἰάρετ; see the lexicon note.
