The setting

The eighth patriarch, Enoch’s son. Swete’s Codex-A text gives 187 years here; Brenton’s 1851 edition prints a different main-text number for the Vaticanus tradition, 167 — but Brenton’s own footnote records “Alex. 187 years,” independently confirming the very reading frozen here.
