καὶ ἀπεκαλύφθησαν αἱ πηγαὶ τῆς ἀβύσσου καὶ οἱ καταράκται τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ συνεσχέθη ὁ ὑετὸς ἀπὸ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ,
Familiar English Bibles (following the Hebrew) say the springs and floodgates “were stopped” — but the Greek Swete freezes here literally says ἀπεκαλύφθησαν, “were uncovered, laid bare,” the ordinary sense of ἀποκαλύπτω (the verb behind “apocalypse”). The LXX's Greek and the Hebrew it renders appear to pull in opposite directions at this one word; both witnesses agree the Greek reads this way, so it is kept as the frozen text and flagged here rather than silently smoothed over.
