Outro dia chegou a fazer um gesto de D. Glória, tão bem que ela lhe deu um beijo em paga. Vamos, como é que eu ando? Não, Ezequiel, disse eu, mamãe não quer. Eu mesmo achava feio tal sestro.
Another day he arrived to make a gesture of D. Glória, so well that she gave him a kiss in payment. 'Come on, how do I walk?' 'No, Ezequiel,' said I, 'mommy doesn't want.' I even found such a habit ugly.
The narrator describes Ezequiel imitating D. Glória and being kissed, then being told not to do it again.
The narrator recounts how Ezequiel imitated D. Glória's gesture so perfectly that she kissed him, but later the narrator scolds him, saying his mother disapproves, and the narrator himself finds the habit unpleasant.
