Mas o menino era travesso, como o diabo; apenas começamos a falar de outra coisa, saltou ao meio da sala, dizendo a José Dias:— O senhor anda assim. Não podemos deixar de rir, eu mais que ninguém.
But the boy was as mischievous as the devil; as soon as we began to speak of another thing, he jumped to the middle of the room, saying to José Dias: 'Sir walks like this.' We cannot stop laughing, I more than anyone.
The narrator describes the boy's mischievous behavior and the reaction of the adults.
