Interpretation
And behold, he has come with ten thousands of holy ones, to execute judgement upon them and to destroy the godless; and he will convict all flesh concerning all that they did, and how they acted impiously against him, the sinners [and] the godless.

This is the verse the New Testament letter of Jude quotes, at Jude 14–15. The Ge’ez በትእልፊት ቅዱሳን ba-tǝʾǝlfit qǝddusān is “with ten thousands of holy ones”, and Jude’s Greek says the same, “with ten thousands of his saints” in the older English. The verb is the perfect maṣʾa, “he came”, and Jude’s Greek is also a past tense; English usually says “comes”. Dillmann quotes the Ge’ez phrase as his first example under tǝʾǝlfit, “a host of ten thousand”, and under the prefix ba- he sets Enoch 1:9 and Jude 14 side by side as examples of ba- meaning “with”.

Dillmann quotes the other clauses too: ያህጕሎሙ ለረሲዓን, “he destroys the godless”, under ʾahgʷala, and ከመ ይግበር ፍትሐ ላዕሌሆሙ, “that he may make judgement upon them”, under fǝtḥ. The closing pair, ኃጥኣን ረሲዓን, “sinners, godless”, matches the last words of Jude’s quotation, “ungodly sinners”. Jude adds a second charge, the hard things sinners have said against him, which the Ge’ez on our page does not have. Charles marks lāʿlehomu, “upon them”, as corrupt.
