Right on the right of the corridor we find standing open a wide door, which gives entry to the reception room, vast and luxuriously furnished.
Through the corridor: a wide door, already open, into the reception room — vast, luxuriously furnished. The wealth of the house, on display.
The door is 'aberta' — already open. Nothing in this house resists us; we walk in on a scene nobody is guarding. And the room is 'vasta e luxuosamente mobiliada', vast and luxuriously furnished — the last of the chapter's inventories of wealth, which began with the fertile district, the magnificent fazenda, the pastures and orchards. Guimarães has been careful to let us see, in the same breath, the senzalas where the wealth is made. The reception room is the face the estate shows the world.
