Kissing his hands

Meo coração adivinhava, continuou beijando com terna efusão as mãos de Miguel;
My heart foresaw it, she went on, kissing Miguel's hands with tender effusion;
She kisses the hands that saved coin by coin to buy her — the working hands of a father. 'My heart foresaw it': her deliverance would come, she felt, only from love. The tenderness is at its height exactly as the blow prepares to land.
