The latter at once trained upon her unhappy companion her battery of sarcastic, galling taunts and gibes.
Guimarães keeps the military metaphor running: Rosa 'assestou' — trained, sighted, as one aims a cannon — her 'bateria,' her battery of guns, at Isaura. The abstract nouns 'dicterios' and 'remoques' (taunts and cutting gibes) are her ammunition. The comedy of the figure barely softens its real cruelty.
