Por que te enxotárão de lá Isaura?
Why did they drive you out of there, Isaura?
The needle goes deepest here. 'Enxotar' is what you do to a stray animal — shoo it off, drive it away — and Rosa chooses the word deliberately, implying Isaura was expelled in disgrace rather than simply left behind. It is a lie with a hook in it, meant to make Isaura defend herself.
