'Leôncio has a beast's heart'

Este senhor Leoncio tem mesmo um coração de fera.
This master Leôncio truly has the heart of a wild beast.
André even condemns his own master to ingratiate himself — 'um coração de fera,' the heart of a beast — for sending a girl like Isaura to the workroom. It costs him nothing and buys him a moment's alliance with her against Leôncio. The judgment happens to be true, which is the joke: the buffoon stumbles onto the plain fact everyone knows.
