André brushes her contentment aside — 'não é aqui teo lugar,' this isn't your place — and then reveals his motive with clumsy candour: 'por outra banda estimo bem isso,' on the other hand, I'm glad of it. Glad, because her demotion has brought her within his reach. The mask of sympathy slips, and the self-interest under it shows plainly.
