'From now on this is your place; this wheel is yours, and let your fellows give you your task for today.'
The sentence of demotion is delivered as ownership: 'this is your place; this wheel is yours.' What is given is a chain — a fixed spot, a machine, a daily quota. The intimate 'teu/tuas' (thou) is the master's grammar for a slave, close and commanding at once. Isaura's new life is defined for her in a breath.
