She completes the reversal by using his own earlier words against him: he had said her fate was 'inteiramente entre as minhas mãos'; she agrees exactly — 'minha sorte depende unicamente da vontade de meo senhor.' By conceding total powerlessness she strips herself of the responsibility he tried to lay on her. If everything depends on his will, then nothing depends on hers, and no submission she gives could be called consent.
