«Without example» — sin ejemplo, sin precedente, sin igual: una cosa tan nueva que nada se le parece. «Features» son los rasgos, los accidentes de un paisaje o un rostro. Walton imagina una naturaleza sin modelo previo — la misma tentación de crear lo nunca visto que perderá a Frankenstein.
