Inimigo talvez mais terrível do que os Aimorés, porque se estes eram feras, aquele podia ser a serpente escondida entre as folhas e a relva.
The índio shuddered hearing that voice, and resolved at any cost to know what those men were doing; he sensed there was a danger to avert and an enemy to fight. An enemy perhaps more terrible than the Aimorés, because if these were beasts, that one might be the serpent hidden among the leaves and the grass.
