Aires Gomes, propped against a trunk and forced to turn upon himself to guard his back, felt his head reel and he wavered. The Indian seized the moment, hurled himself at him, caught him from behind, gripped him by both arms, and set about tying him to the very trunk of the tree against which he had been leaning.
