Chapter V. The banter turns to real worry — Peri has been gone two days — and Cecília, troubled, turns to her tame deer.
The conceded point leaves her worse off, not better: if she cannot imagine what keeps Peri away, she cannot reassure herself. Alencar ends her line on a trailing ellipsis, the sentence dissolving into the worry it cannot resolve. (The printed 'E' for 'É' is an OCR seam of the source edition, kept verbatim.)
