The long golden hair, carelessly coiled in rich braids, uncovered the white brow and fell around the neck, held by a very fine lace of gold-coloured straw threads, made with admirable art and perfection.
Chapter V. The scene shifts from the jaguar hunt to the garden of the Paquequer house, where Cecília — 'the lovely girl' — is introduced.
Even the ribbon in her hair is woven of straw — the same humble material as her hammock — but worked to a perfection Alencar calls admirable. The paragraph keeps insisting that Cecília's luxury is hand-made from what the land gives.
