Chapter V. The sisterhood is sealed with a game; Cecília's high spirits return, and she calls the turtledove with a girl's mimicry of its song.
Cecília claims seniority in the invented family — the smaller the pretext, the surer the tenderness behind it. She is building a private household of two, with its own ranks and rules, to give Isabel the belonging the real family withholds.
