<p>Mark gives Jesus no birth, no genealogy, and no announcement. He arrives as the object of a passive verb. Matthew and Luke both add material at this point that Mark does not have; the plainness here is the earliest form of the account we possess.</p><p>The spelling <span class="gk">Ναζαρὲτ</span> varies across manuscripts — Ναζαρέτ, Ναζαράτ, Ναζαρά — and the lemma in our frozen text is Ναζαρά. No English version records the instability.</p>
