καὶ ἔθετο αὐτοὺς ὁ θεὸς ἐν τῷ στερεώματι τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, ὥστε φαίνειν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς,
God places (τίθημι) the lights bodily in the firmament — a physical, almost mechanical image of the sky as furnished with lamps, matching the ancient cosmology of a solid dome.
