καὶ ἔπλασεν ὁ θεὸς ἔτι ἐκ τῆς γῆς πάντα τὰ θηρία τοῦ ἀγροῦ καὶ πάντα τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ ἤγαγεν αὐτὰ πρὸς τὸν Ἀδὰμ ἰδεῖν τί καλέσει αὐτά· καὶ πᾶν ὃ ἐὰν ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸ Ἀδὰμ ψυχὴν ζῶσαν, τοῦτο ὄνομα αὐτοῦ.
God forms the animals — from the same γῆ, and by the same verb ἔπλασεν, as the man himself — and lets Ἀδὰμ name them; whatever he calls a creature, τοῦτο ὄνομα αὐτοῦ, "that is its name," becomes final. Naming here is an exercise of the dominion given in Gen 1:28, and each animal too is called ψυχὴν ζῶσαν, "a living soul" — the same phrase used of the man in v.7.
