καὶ ἐπέβαλεν ὁ θεὸς ἔκστασιν ἐπὶ τὸν Ἀδάμ, καὶ ὕπνωσεν· καὶ ἔλαβεν μίαν τῶν πλευρῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀνεπλήρωσεν σάρκα ἀντ᾽ αὐτῆς.
ἔκστασιν — the same word that gives English "ecstasy", literally a standing-outside of oneself, here a God-sent deep sleep/trance (used elsewhere of prophetic trance, e.g. Acts 10:10, 11:5, 22:17). From one rib, God builds the woman.
