πηγὴ δὲ ἀνέβαινεν ἐκ τῆς γῆς καὶ ἐπότιζεν πᾶν τὸ πρόσωπον τῆς γῆς.
Before rain, a spring: πηγή rising from the ground itself waters πᾶν τὸ πρόσωπον τῆς γῆς, "the whole face of the earth" — the same idiom, "face of the earth/waters," that runs through the flood narrative and Genesis 1:2's πνεῦμα over the ἄβυσσος.
