ὅτι ἑπτάκις ἐκδεδίκηται ἐκ Κάιν, ἐκ δὲ Λάμεχ ἑβδομηκοντάκις ἑπτά.
Lamech turns God's own protective sevenfold vengeance for Cain (v.15) into a boast of his own, multiplied: ἑβδομηκοντάκις ἑπτά, "seventy times seven." This exact phrase (Matt 18:22) is what Jesus deliberately answers Peter with when asked how often to forgive — not a coincidence but a pointed inversion: Lamech's arithmetic of limitless vengeance becomes Jesus's arithmetic of limitless forgiveness.
