Καὶ ἔζησεν Λάμεχ ἑκατὸν ὀγδοήκοντα ὀκτὼ ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱόν.

The setting

The ninth patriarch, and the last before Noah. For the first time since v.2, the son is not immediately named — the text withholds his name across the verse break, giving it its own weight in v.29, together with the words Lamech is reported as speaking over him.
