ἰδὼν δὲ Κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὅτι ἐπληθύνθησαν αἱ κακίαι τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, καὶ πᾶς τις διανοεῖται ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ ἐπιμελῶς ἐπὶ τὰ πονηρὰ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας·
The verdict widens from acts (κακίαι, “wickednesses”, plural — concrete evil deeds) to their source: the heart’s own devising, διανοεῖται. This verse anticipates the almost identical diagnosis God gives again after the Flood, at 8:21. The Hebrew behind it, יֵצֶר מַחְשְׁבֹת לִבּוֹ, “the inclination of the thoughts of his heart”, gives later rabbinic Judaism its doctrine of the יֵצֶר הָרַע, the “evil inclination” innate in every person.
