Νῶε δὲ εὗρεν χάριν ἐναντίον Κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ.
The chapter’s turning point, in eight words: one man’s χάρις amid universal corruption. χάρις here means simply “favor” in God’s eyes, but it is the identical word the New Testament will make its central theological term for unmerited grace (John 1:14, 17; Eph 2:8) — Noah’s story gives it an early, concrete instance: favor found, not earned, before any of Noah’s righteousness is even stated (that comes in v.9).
