Νῶε δὲ ἦν ἐτῶν ἑξακοσίων καὶ ὁ κατακλυσμὸς ἦν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.
Noah's age dates the flood precisely — the LXX's careful chronology of the patriarchs runs through this whole narrative. κατακλυσμός, “the flood/deluge,” gives English “cataclysm”; it names not the rain itself but the great inundation the rain produces.
