εἰσῆλθεν δὲ Νῶε καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν κιβωτὸν διὰ τὸ ὕδωρ τοῦ κατακλυσμοῦ.
The whole household — Noah, his three sons, his wife, his sons' three wives, eight people in all — enters the ark. διὰ τὸ ὕδωρ, “because of the water,” states plainly what the rest of the chapter will describe at length.
