The word of blessing of Enoch, with which he blessed the chosen and the righteous who are to be there in the day of tribulation, for the removal of all the wicked and the godless.

The word of blessing of Enoch, with which he blessed the chosen and the righteous who are to be there in the day of tribulation, for the removal of all the wicked and the godless.
Interpretation
The word of blessing of Enoch, with which he blessed the chosen and the righteous who are to be there in the day of tribulation, for the removal of all the wicked and the godless.

The book opens with a blessing, barakat, and its verb is bāraka. Dillmann’s first sense for that verb is genibus flexis laudare, “to praise on bended knees”; for “to wish someone well” (fausta precari) he cites this verse. The people Enoch blesses are the chosen (ḫǝruyān) and the righteous (ṣādǝqān), who are to be there ba-ʿǝlata mǝndābe, “in the day of tribulation”. Dillmann gives this very phrase as his first example under the word for “day”, and glosses mǝndābe angustia, a narrow place.

The verse ends with la-ʾasassǝlo, “for the removal” of every wicked (ʾǝkuyān) and godless (rasiʿān) one. Dillmann’s examples under that verb end with these very words, and he cites this verse under rasiʿān too.

The Book of Enoch 1.2 · A vision for a far-off generation📜 Charles 1906, the printed page
Enoch begins to speak. He says that what he saw is meant for a generation far off.
· · ·

And he answered and said: Enoch, a righteous man who is from God, [while] his eyes are open, and sees a holy vision in the heavens, which the angels showed me; and I heard from them everything, and I understood what I saw, and not for this generation, but for the one that is to come, far off.
