The Book of Enoch 1.5 · The Watchers tremble📜 Charles 1906, the printed page
The coming of God shakes everything, the angels first.
· · ·
And all will fear, and the Watchers will quake, fear and great trembling will seize them to the ends of the earth.
The Lord “will tread” on Sinai. The verb is kēda, and Dillmann cites this verse for kēda with diba, “upon”, treading on a place. His other examples are treading grapes in the winepress (Revelation 14:20) and threshing grain (Isaiah 25:10), so the step is heavy and deliberate. The place is Mount Sinai, where Exodus has God give the Law. “God of the age” is ʾǝmlāka ʿālam, a phrase Dillmann quotes under ʾǝmlāk.
He appears ba-tǝʿyǝntu, “with his camp” or “with his host”. Dillmann files this verse under tǝʿyǝnt in the sense “army, host”, and under the little prefix ba- he lists Enoch 1:4 and 1:9 beside Jude 14 as examples of ba- meaning “with”. The Lord comes with a host here, and with ten thousands of holy ones in 1:9.
