And they began to go in to them and mingled with them; and they taught them drugs and spells, and the cutting of roots, and plants they made known to them.
Interpretation
And they began to go in to them and mingled with them, and they taught them drugs and spells, and the cutting of roots, and they made plants known to them.

The first thing the angels teach is śǝrāy. Dillmann renders it medicamentum, medicina, pharmacum: medicine and drug together, the Greek pharmakon. Then spells, then the root-cutter’s trade, then plants. In the ancient world the healer, the herbalist and the sorcerer were often the same person, and Enoch makes all of that knowledge a gift from fallen angels.

Charles suspected that “mingled with them” stands for a verb meaning “to defile themselves”, which is how the Greek reads. Ge’ez has the gentler word.
