These consumed all the labour of men, until men could no longer feed them.
Raʿāyt, giants: Dillmann glosses gigantes. These are the Nephilim of Genesis 6:4, whom Genesis mentions in a single verse. Enoch gives them a size. Three thousand cubits is about 1,400 metres, half the height of Mount Hermon itself: the number is meant to stagger.
Ge’ez writes the number in its own figures, ፴፻, thirty times a hundred. The Ethiopic numerals descend from Greek letters.
