A note on this passage

Her resolve sharpens to a hunt of her own — 'Onde está elle?', where is he? For the first time in the chapter a woman is doing the seeking, tracking the man down. The pronoun 'elle', him, unnamed, keeps Leôncio at the length of her contempt. The prey has turned, and goes looking for the predator.
